January 18, 2007: - Silicon Technology Scaling and ESD Challenges -
Austin, Texas. Charvaka Duvvury of Texas Instruments talked about Silicon Technology Scaling and ESD Challenges and the impact it has on the device community.  Presentation first examined the advances in transistor structures and their impact on intrinsic ESD robustness. After a brief introduction to the ESD design and test methods, the presentation reviewed the new effects of IC packages.  Finally, the ESD Technology Road Map and the practical methods that should be considered to maintain ESD reliability into the next decade were offered.

April 24-25, 2007:  -  20.20 Training Seminar / Device Design Training - "ANSI/ESD S20.20 ESD Program Manager" (April 17-18, 2007)  2-Day Seminar and  parallel track with Device Design tutorials  ESD On-Chip Protection in Advanced Technologies on day 1,  then on the 2nd day Spice-Based ESD Protection Design Utilizing Diodes and Active MOSFET Rail Clamp Circuits and Device Testing - Component Level: HBM, CDM, MM and TLP), in Austin, Texas. 

June 21, 2007: - National Tutorial Series in Austin, Texas.  ESD Standards Overview for the Program Manager, taught by Dave Swenson, and Device Technology and FA Overview, taught by Leo G. Henry.

Monday, January 27, 2003, 2-4pm at Sematech, Austin TX
Topic:  Creating and Measuring Photomask Damage.    A method for photomask damage and measurement of the resultant Electromagnetic Interference was presented.  Previous testing of this type has been performed using DuPont's CanaryTM reticle.  This experiment evaluates production photomasks with 250 nanometer groundrules.  Observed damage (Canary/Production Reticle) was compared.  A demonstration of the hardware utilized was included.  Experiment conducted by Andrew Rudack, Michael Pendley, Patrick Gagnon and Larry Levit.   Speaker was Andrew Rudack of International SEMATECH in Austin, Texas.

Topic: "Contamination Control from an ESD Perspective"  The presentation provided a general review of the components of contamination control in today's cleanrooms as they relate to the prevention of ESD Events.  Items that were reviewed included cleanroom design, apparel, ionization, and materials, along with differences in ESD control for semiconductor, biotech, and other industrial cleanrooms.   Speaker was Bruce Patterson, Vice President of Operations for Micro Equipment Company in Georgetown, Texas.   Bruce also serves as Member at Large on the Board of Directors of the Texas ESD Association.

Monday, May 19, 2003, 2-4pm at National Instruments,  Austin TX
Topic: National Instruments Tour - We met in the lobby of Building C for our meeting.   After the ESD Association meeting, we walked to the lobby of building A  for a 30-40 minute tour of the production area with an emphasis on ESD prevention.  The group was led by Farhan Amir of National instruments.  

September 12, 2003, Fundamentals of ESD Training at Sematech in Austin, TX - Topics included an overview of the ESDA 20.20 standard, basics of ESD, evolution of ESD  and voltage detection, ESD flooring, ionization, and a Q&A to wrap up the training.  Training was provided at NO CHARGE to promote education and awareness.    Click HERE for presentations.

May 17, 2004 (Mon), at Sematech in Austin, TX -   "Packaging for ESD Sensitive Items."     This Tutorial addressed ANSI/ESD S541, which replaces EIA 541.    Among other objectives, the presentation addressed:

1.)   Is the original EIA 541, the premier Packaging Standard, still valid?
2.)   How does the new ANSI/ESD S 541 compare to EIA 541?
3.)   What are the interactions between ANSI/ESD S20.20 and S541?
4.)   What constitutes and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Protected Area?

September 14,  2004 (Tues) - at Motorola / Freescale - "Plant tour with
emphasis on ESD Control and Grounding" -  Bill Grubb, NARTE Certified ESD Technician at Motorola / Freescale, leadi us on a plant tour with an emphasis on ESD Control program and auditing of same.   Freescale / Motorola is located at 6501 William Cannon Drive West in Austin, TX, at the Highway 290 and William Cannon intersection. 

September 19-23, 200426th Annual Electrostatic Discharge  Symposium in Grapevine(Dallas) Texas.    This year tutorials included new courses to help you fulfill the requirements of profession certification programs.


October 21-22, 2004 - The NEPCON show (the Southwest's most comprehensive electronics manufacturing event,) is came back to Texas,  at the Arlington Convention Center, Arlington (Dallas), Texas.   The Texas ESD Association also had a booth at the show.  For more information about this exciting event please go to www.nepcontexas.com .

November 15 2004 - 7:30 - 9:30pm Dinner Meeting  - Have you ever been "Shocked in the Shower", "Knocked off your feet", or "Had a fear of Chocolate" because of static electricity?  At our dinner meeting  Dave Swenson, retired from 3M & Founder with his wife Geri, of Affinity Static Control Consulting, L.L.C., related some personal and industry experiences with static electricity that you would not believe.

January 24 2005 - Orientation to Program Manager Certification (Sematech 2-4pm, ATDF training room ) - For 2005, the Texas ESD Association, in partnership with the National ESD Association, offered 3 important training opportunities as part of the new ESD Association Certified Program Manager curriculum.  To kick-off the year, Dave Swenson described the Program Manager certification  requirements and discussed the training opportunities..

April 12, 2005 -  How To's of In-Plant ESD Survey and Evaluation Measurements (3M Innovation Center, Austin TX, 1 Day, $475)  - Stephen Halperin, founder of Stephen Halperin & Associates and advisor to the Executive Committee of ESDA Board, provided practical ESD measurement techniques and guildelines for verfiying performance of ESD Control Elements.   As an added incentive, this first course included the one-time $50 Program Manager Certification tracking fee.

January 09, 2006 - 3pm - ESD Technology Road Map (3M Innovation Center, Austin TX)  - Introductory session discussed the new "ESD Technology Road Map" prepared by several key Device Design technology members of the ESD Association.  This new and up to date look at the ESD issues involved in IC design and the related manufacturing processes. February 07, 2006 - Grounding for the Electrostatic Protected Area (On-Line Training, 2pm) - Web-based training provided an overview of the new ANSI/ESD S6.1-2005 grounding document.  The new standard provides guidance on setting up and maintaining a reliable work area grounding system for personnel, Equipment, tools, and fixtures in the factory as well as field service applications.

Apr 22, 2009 3-5PM -  S20.20 Overview  - John Kinnear, IBM, Poughkeepsie, NY provided a brief overview of the requirements for an ESD control program plan to help potential attendees prepare for the 2-Day Seminar.  It will also gave those who will not attend the Seminar a preliminary understanding of what is needed to develop a good control plan.  Presentation was held at the 3M Innovation Center, 6801 River Place Blvd., Austin, TX 78726.   

Jun 16-17, 2009 - S20.20 Regional Tutorial  - Instructors: John Kinnear  & Ron Gibson Seminar provides instruction on designing and implementing an ESD program based on ANSI/ESD S20.20, including tools and techniques to prepare for an audit.  Course is an ESDA requirement for in-plant auditors and program managers working toward professional certification.  Establishing an ESD control program that can be certified to ANSI/ESD S20.20, the premier ESD control program development standard, requires an understanding of not only the basics of static control but how to evaluate manufacturing process interactions.   In additon, having an understanding of what an auditor looks for certainly simplifies the control plan preparation process.  - Training at 3M Innovation Center, 6801 River Place Blvd., Austin, TX 78726.
